Start Making Sense

In the ad, which begins airing in Iowa today, [Gov. Mitt] Romney says the US must confront radical Islamists and vows to strengthen US intelligence services, add 100,000 members to the military, and stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

"It's this century's nightmare, Jihadism –- violent, radical Islamic fundamentalism," Romney says in the spot. "Their goal is to unite the world under a single Jihadist caliphate. To do that, they must collapse freedom-loving nations like us." --from this news item

Good in itself, and possibly the cause of Good in other men. If it ups the rhetorical ante, and forces others -- not only in the Republican Party -- to start learning, start calling things by their right name ("Jihadism" still needs to be pruned of that timid "ism" at the end), or at least get closer to the heart of the matter than "war on terror" could ever do, start seeing that they have to talk about "Jihad" and all those who believe in "Jihad" and that will take us far, very far, along a certain mental path, one which at this point demands long strides, never letting up, rather than the ambling or rambling (with a stop to examine a roadside fern, or possibly to go off on a side path, for a frolic and detour) as has up to now been deemed satisfactory by one and all. It isn't. Many people in this country have, by dint of their auto-didactic efforts, far outpaced the politicians who presume to instruct and protect them. That ever-growing part of the public is becoming impatient with the timidity, rigidity, stupidity, and cupidity of political figures right and left and center, and are going to demand that on Islam everyone Start Making Sense.
