Steptoe & Son...Live Now, P.A.Y.E. Later

Steptoe and Son - father and son run a junkyard. In this episode Harold (the son)  discovers that (his father) Albert has 'neglected' to inform the tax department that his wife has died - over 30 years ago.
Father and son didn't always get on well in the script. Real life actors Wilfred Brambell and Harry H Corbett are said to have never got on well on set. Harry H Corbett was a fine straight actor who became typecast as Harold Steptoe and died young. Wilfred Brambell was an alchoholic convicted of cottaging and persistent importuning. In fairness it may have been the strain of his private life drove him to drink.

please when you post try and get a few facts corect.harry and wilfred got on very well together on set and off, they did not socialise outside as they had diferent friends.their relaitionship on set only came to a head when they toured austrailia and then it ws soon to be the end.harry was never type cast as he had plenty of work after steptoe.ie he was an excellent stage performer.wilfrid was convicted for soliciting in a public converniance.{excuse the spelling}i am unsure as to wilfrid being an alcoholic but he certainley did like a few drinks.he lived for many years with a young lad of asian extract and died only a couple of years after harry.the rubish programe bbc put out was in the region of 90% lies as the coorbett family have been complaing to the bbc every since.if you go the steptoe appreciation site it will give you some interesting facts abot the show...sorry if i seem touchy but the bbc programme has caused a lot of trouble for the repective families and friends of harry and wilfrid.thanks..

Of course as soon as I clicked "submit", I was reminded of Mary's post about "cottaging," and its meaning.

Wilfred Brambell was an alchoholic convicted of cottaging and persistent importuning.

I don't know what cottaging or persistent importuning are, but the names sound pretty harmless.  Reminds me of a friend's older brother, who was convicted of "lurking about" in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The actor playing the father looks like Paul McCartney's "father" in "A Hard Day's Night".
