Events and exhibits are under way in New York honoring the life and work of Italian author and journalist Oriana Fallaci, who even while dying of breast cancer valiantly fought against the Islamification of Europe in her books, on television and in the courts. Oriana Fallaci (June 29, 1929 - September 15, 2006)
Oriana Fallaci's writing style - in the two books of hers I read - was not to my liking. She shouted, and sacrificed coherence and cogency to passion. This is a personal matter - I tend to be persuaded by logic, or humour and irony, rather than passion.
But the substance, as opposed to the style, was mostly right. She was mostly right, and bravely, uncompromisingly so. Her courage, both moral and physical, is a lesson to us all. And, beautiful, slight and feminine as she was, I love her ballsy attitude: fuck you, was her message. Go fuck yourself was another, in case you misunderstood.
Good for you, Oriana.
