Just started in on them.  The very first entry (Monday, Jan. 26, 1981) begins: "A meeting on terrorism with heads of FBI—SS—CIA, Sec's of St., Defense & others..."  This has been going on a while.
Five pages later (Saturday, Feb. 28):  "...A call in evening reported a boat load of Haitians approaching our shores.  I'm all for opening the door to refugees from totalitarianism but this is more complicated.  These are just people who believe they can have a better life here.  They are in fact illegal aliens.  We'll have to deport them..."

Oops.

The system I've been complimenting appears to have erased my postscript. Therein I remarked on how extraordinary it was that I could complain about a sin that no one has, as yet, committed (at least not on this site anyway). I believe that self-deprecating shot humanizes me and by God, do I need humanization. (There. A second self-deprecating shot :-)

Foist of all, NER's commenting system sucks. You gotta click on comments TWICE before getting to a page that doesn't even feature the piecde you're commenting on - and then there's no way to input your own blog address so folk can click over. The allowance for rich text don't make up for that.

Anyhow, if ya ever did get a better commenting system, this blog post would be the place where dozens of brilliant minds would pipe up to sigh nostalgically about the great bold days when we had true giants such as Reagan as president. "Ah, he said something about the problem of illegal immigration...How far we've fallen...Everything was so different and wonderful then..."

Of course they'd be off by a few miles but that's the strange way of human memory. Gotta see the good somewhere if you're gonna complain about the present, right?
